FAQs:
Q: How do I get my son/daughter involved in True North?
A: We love to hear this question from parents. The thing is, the answer may be different for every student. We do want to mention a few different ways your son/daughter can become involved with us here at OVBC. One of the easiest ways to get your student involved is to introduce them to our student minister or an adult volunteer before one of our weekly services. Go ahead and come with your student and make sure that they are introduced to a student ministry staff or volunteer. Once we meet them, one of our student leaders will show your son/daughter around. Another way to get your student connected is to attend one of our Seek Week events. These are monthly special events where students are free and encouraged to socialize and get to know one another. Check out the home page for upcoming Seek Weeks. Another way to get your son/daughter involved in the ministry is to come to a major event. It may be a lot less threatening to come to an event rather than a church service or Bible study. In all these cases, our most sincere desire is to do whatever is possible in order for your student to get involved in the ministry.
Q: What all is offered to my student at True North?
A: Our number one priority is to build a lasting, mentor-based relationship with your student. Through this relationship your student will be shown the love of Christ. We offer High School and Middle School mentor groups led by teams of caring and cmmitted adult mentors. Throughout the year we offer numerous events geared toward helping your student grow closer to Christ and with each other. There are way too many events throughout the year to list. The best way to find out about all of the events is to check out the home page and calendar section of the website. There you can find all the upcoming events. You can also call us here at the OVBC office (843-449-3384) or email our Minister of Students for any event questions or information.
Q: How do I, as a parent, get involved in True North?
A: There are numerous ways for you, as a parent or guardian, to get involved in True North. The easiest way to be involved is to pray for our students, volunteers, and staff on a regular basis. Although there are a lot of things going on in the ministry, none of those things make any kind of significant difference without God’s power and intervention. As far as physically getting involved in the ministry, there are tons of ways to get plugged in. You can be a Compass Bible study leader or an ACTS Revolution mentor. You can be a greeter in the youth room, help at the check-in center, chaperone events and trips, just to name a few. Feel free to contact us for more details on how to get involved. We would love to have you!
Q: If my son/daughter needs professional counseling, where should I go?
A: Any one of our pastoral staff would love to talk with your son/daughter. We are not licensed counselors, but we can speak with students and adults about the spiritual nature of any issue. For any major psychological concern, we highly recommend a licensed, professional counselor.
We have professional counselors we can recommend. Feel free to call the church office at
843-449-3384. We would love to set up an appointment to give you further information.
