Option 1 – “CHASING DAYLIGHT”
by Erwin McManus
Facilitated by Everett Douglas: Room C112/C113
In this inspiring book, Erwin McManus uses the biblical account of Israel’s war with the Philistines (1 Samuel 13 and 14) and the characters of Saul and Jonathan to demonstrate the difference between living a life of purpose and adventure, and living one of apathy and missed opportunity.
Using powerful examples from his own life and ministry, along with fresh biblical teaching, McManus asserts that God crafts divine moments specific to each of us — priceless opportunities for us to actively engage in God’s plan. By developing the characteristics McManus outlines, Christians can move from mundane to miraculous living.
Option 2 – “EXTREME GRANDPARENTING”
by Tim &Darcy Kimmel
Facilitated by Ronnie & Sharon Armeen: Room B107
Make the most of your role as grandparent – a role being redefined today by active, vital grandparents like you. The honesty, humor, stories and practical experiences offered by Tim and Darcy Kimmel will motivate and guide you to develop richer relationships with your children and their children.
Discover how you can reach and relate to grandchildren, not only as a mentor and loving family member, but as a spiritual rock during the hard times. Extreme Grandparenting encourages you to give the greatest gift possible to family: yourself.
This study was offered in the fall of ‘05 under a different title.
Option 3 – “IN THE DUST OF THE RABBI”
by Ray Vander Laan
Facilitated by Bill Zerfass: Room C106 / C110
In The Dust of the Rabbi: Becoming a Disciple transports you to locations in Israel and Turkey to learn how the early church lived as disciples of Jesus. Come and follow teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan into the life of a talmid (disciple). Learn about how following a rabbi wasn't simply a hobby, it was a passion that was the driving force behind every action, every thought. And ask yourself, “How passionate am I to follow Jesus?”
Option 4 – “PARENTAL GUIDANCE REQUIRED”
by Andy Stanley
Facilitated by Jennifer Kiskunas: Room C101
While the culture around you may offer many suggestions about parenting, God has much to say about how to navigate the road ahead of you. Through this six-session study, God may give you clarity and insight into your relationship with your children as well as your children's relationships with others.
Andy Stanley is pastor of one of the most innovative and influential churches in America. He and his wife, Sandra, live in Alpharetta, Georgia, with their three children – Andrew, Garrett, and Allison. Learn from his biblical insights, as well as his personal experience.
Option 5 – “THE BARBARIAN WAY”
by: Erwin McManus
Facilitated by Danay Adams : Room B110/B111 (MEN ONLY)
Erwin McManus wasn't raised in a Christian home, so when he came to Christ as a college student, he didn't know the rules of the "religious club." He didn't do well in Shakespeare courses, so he didn't really understand the KJV Bible he was given either. But he did understand that prayer was a conversation, and he learned to talk to God and wait for answers. Erwin's way was passionate and rough around the edges- a sincere, barbaric journey to Christ. Barbaric Christians see Jesus differently than civilized Christians. They see disciples differently, and they see Christ's mission differently. The Barbarian Way is a call to escape "civilized" Christianity and become original, powerful, untamed Christians - just as Christ intended.
Option 6 – “THE JESUS I NEVER KNEW” (Part 2)
by:Philip Yancey
Facilitated by Steve Cromer : Room B104
How does the Jesus of the New Testament compare to the Jesus we think we know so well? Best-selling author Philip Yancey says, "The Jesus I got to know in writing this book is very different from the Jesus I learned about in Sunday school. In some ways he is more comforting; in some ways more terrifying." In The Jesus I Never Knew, Yancey offers a new and different perspective on the life of Christ and His work—His teachings, His miracles, His death and resurrection— and ultimately, who He is and why He came. Relating the Gospel events to the world we live in today, Yancey gives a moving and refreshing portrait of the central figure of history.
This is a continuation of Part 1 that began last session.
Option 7 – “THE VIRTUOUS WOMAN”
by Vicki Courtney
Facilitated by Mary Turner : Room B101
Does the woman in Proverbs 31 make you feel like a sluggard? For years, Christian women have struggled to understand what the Proverbs 31 woman was all about. Instead of encouragement or instruction, for most, this passage offered "more guilt than eating a one-pound bag of M&Ms." Is this the ideal woman? Or is the Proverbs 31 woman an outdated fixture of the past?
Vicky Courtney believes that this passage is not in the Bible by accident and that a virtuous woman is a rare find in today's world. Join Vicki as she sojourns with you to unravel the mystery behind the Proverbs 31 woman.
